Dad's car had been completely disassembled by day's end today. Found that the peddle box floor was broke out. Don't know why unless someone had tried the put a clutch stop bolt in place and a heavy foot caused it to fracture out a chunk. The tub is a disaster and will require complete break down, new timbers fitted etc. Not a happy camper in that regard the weekend entails getting parts decreased and the smaller items stripped of paint. Toe board straightened and knock the spot welds out of the tool and battery boxes in preparation of fabrication and replacement.

Last year I located my father's car quite by accident. While traveling to So California to by parts for another TD/c project I had acquired I got into a conversation with Mike S. about dad's 1951 SSG Mark II. He had special ordered it and took delivery in the fall of that year. I think I've relayed his story here before. I mentioned that I'd never seen a car painted in SSG. Mike said he had a car in that color and would I like to see it. After looking at the car and buying some NOS MK II parts I head back to NorCal. Several weeks later Mike calls me and says he thinks he has my dad's car. After asking a few questions and knowing a few items dad's car had it was a distinct possibility that this car was indeed my dad's. Mike told me the car came to him from NorCal not far from Sacramento and that it was his mission that the car come full circle and return home. Another trip was scheduled to return to Mike's. Mike and I went through a large amassed inventory of NOS parts. Everything short of an interior and canvas was assembled together and a package deal was made.

Yesterday the car was completely disassembled and the chassis, suspension and other odds and ends will be shipped to the stripper for powder coating by Tuesday. Mike had already rebuilt running gear some time back though I will do an engine tear down to verify that all is well. The trans was built using new BMC gearsets and the differential has been freshened as well. Mike was kind enough to sell me the car for the amt he paid the PO in the mid seventies. A sum of $3500 plus the NOS items.

The tub will need considerable wood work to bring it up to snuff but all body panels are undamaged. It will be a very easy paint job. But the wood is not my strong suit.

Bill that is really neat. How many people dream of finding an old family car and never accomplish it. For how many years was it out of the family?

Wind, dirt and allergies not a good combination for me today. Yesterday was spent on a peddle box repair. A DPO had done some unsavory work and had hacked a hole in the bottom for who knows what.
