I'm planning on lowering my 69 MGB-Gt about an inch. It will be used primarily for autocross, vintage rally, and harassing slammed hondas. I was gonna go with Moss 550lbs springs up front but have heard mixed reviews about using lowering springs in the back. Does anyone have experience with these vs. using lowering blocks. I've got a full tube shock conversion and plan on running uprated sway bars and possibly negative camber wishbones. All suggestions are appreciated. Ride quality is not an issue, the rear end sliding around is.

from what i hear , the big thing in MGB rallycars in england is fiberglass rear springs. I've seen these on other cars here but not yet on an mg. my question is what have you done to your engine that will let you harass 200+ hp hondas. I'm allways looking to make my car faster and love to Know just how far the mgb motor can be pushed.

I've got the Negative camber wishbones on my car, they really improve the understeer. As for the springs your on your own. But on the swaybar, you shouldn't go bigger than 3/4" on the front and don't bother with the rear. If you go to the 1" on the front you'll encounter lots of understeer.

I auto-crossed my B for 4 years with 2 being regional champ. I added the 550# front springs and had the stock rears rearched to lower the rear of the car. originally I tried leaving the rears springs stock but found I had a lot of oversteer. You also need a 3/4" front sway bar with solid bushings and no sway bar in the rear. I now road race the car with ICSCC/SCCA so I added a panard rod and the long lower a-arms to help increase the high speed cornering. Good luck!

Well to start off with most hondas aren't pushing 200+ hp, and I wasn't really planning on taking the B to the strip to much to test out those few really hot hondas. However, I do think it more than possible to take a 200 hp honda on a twisty road with the right setup. My plans for the the engine are to go with a cross-flow head and flat top pistons .30 over to get the compression up around 10:1. I was going to run a 3/4 race cam, with a 302 duration, double valve springs, and upgrade pushrods. I came up on a free side draft weber 45, so I'll use that for sucking the air and gas (I hear it suffers a bit in the low end department, but up high with a hot cam its a dream.) Probably going to use the Mallory mechanical dizzy. Get a stronger clutch, lighten the fly wheel. Have a good garage tune it all up. Oh and of course a header and straight pipe exhaust. I talked to a guy who ran a very similar setup to this and it put out 160hp, and could reach 60 from a stop in 5 seconds. My MG should have a 500lb weight advantage on most hondas. Hopefully my budget will allow me to finish this within 2 years.

the new HONDA roadster puts out close to 240 hp, according to the magazines i have read...but to get that hp, the engine has to be twisted real tight.. ( from 6000-8900 rpm... ) below that it suffers really bad... no torque...

I was thinking more along the lines of hopped up civics , preludes, accords etc... I probably wouldn't try and tangle with an S2000. Thats up in the leagues of porsche boxster and BMW Z3. I'm only a humble MGB guy, beating testosterone filled guys in their civics will give me plenty of satisfaction.

Hey, it might even run better if you put a whole cam in it instead of just 3/4 of one :-)
