I hate to think that I'll be someone's future DPO but... Last week I snapped the nut off the axle stud holding the rebound strap. After the appropriate amount of cursing and kicking myself I calmed down and came to you all to save me. And sure enough, I wasn't the only one to have done this. From all the posts it seemed the easiest fix would be to do a little grinding and drilling for a cotter pin so that's what I did. I think the result will work without having to trim the strap at all.

Good job! If that's the worst DPO fix you perform you'll do fine.

“Ideological certainty easily degenerates into an insistence upon ignorance". Daniel Patrick Moynihan

In any debate, the side which strays from civil discussion is usually the side that lacks confidence in its debate position or in the merit of their arguments. Making personal attacks on the opponents instead of staying on the subject is also a sign of weakness.

Anyone who feels compelled to respond in kind to any perceived slight is often suffering from narcissism.

Simple. Effective. LOW cost. I LIKE IT! (You may lose a few points at the car show, though.)

DPO? That is a stroke of genius!

I think that solution was slated for the '81 MGB model year. devil smiley

Mig Mate helped me! Last one I had like that I just welded a clean new washer to the post.

There really isn't much lateral strain there. The strap limits downward motion. I think that's a great repair and certainly wouldn't cure the PO if I found one like it on my car.

So, I broke one off at the other end recently. Expensive and painful welding and grinding. Any creative suggestions to do that in the future? Bart

Expensive & painful,Bart? I am sure Bob took much more time drilling that hole than I did cleaning with a wire wheel ,grabbing a washer and flipping the mig switch on. Yes long sleeves and gloves do cut down on the pain. However drill shavings in the eye are no fun either.
