Make certain that the pipes go into the cooler and engine perfectly straight. There is a slight ridge that will prevent the pipes from seating properly if they don't go in perfectly straight. This happened to me and had me worried until I doubled checked the pipes and noticed the raised ridge. The stock hoses don't have this ridge. RAY

Can you move the ends of the hoses as they enter the cooler - they should be unmovable? Have a careful look. The flare on the ends of the hoses 'mate' with the inside of the connector on top of the cooler and the nuts hold these together - it's a similar principle to the flares mating in the brake lines eg in the 4way (and while the nut in that example is internal the principle's the same).

Hi Harry
I'm on with exactly the same task on my 65b at the moment, test fitted them yesterday before I install a new radiator. The nuts on mine go round a good 10 times before they snug up tight and the pipe fitting then stays in a fixed position.
I'm just down the road from you, ripon side of Harrogate!
Cheers
Jeremy
