Hi All

I have just bought some SS pipes, they don't rub on anything but the threaded nuts only go on to the unions about 2 threads, I am worried they will vibrate off and kill my engine!
Anyone else had this problem?

Harry

Make certain that the pipes go into the cooler and engine perfectly straight. There is a slight ridge that will prevent the pipes from seating properly if they don't go in perfectly straight. This happened to me and had me worried until I doubled checked the pipes and noticed the raised ridge. The stock hoses don't have this ridge. RAY

Hi thanks for answering

I did fiddle about with them to get them seated as good as I could,, but no good.

There is a ridge I can see with the nuts tightened down, but I will try again tomorrow, late here now.

Can you move the ends of the hoses as they enter the cooler - they should be unmovable? Have a careful look. The flare on the ends of the hoses 'mate' with the inside of the connector on top of the cooler and the nuts hold these together - it's a similar principle to the flares mating in the brake lines eg in the 4way (and while the nut in that example is internal the principle's the same).

Hi Harry

I'm on with exactly the same task on my 65b at the moment, test fitted them yesterday before I install a new radiator. The nuts on mine go round a good 10 times before they snug up tight and the pipe fitting then stays in a fixed position.

I'm just down the road from you, ripon side of Harrogate!

Cheers

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

Thanks for post. That's what I thought they should do.

Where did you buy your pipes? I bought mine from sussex classic cars.

Must meet up sometime, I'm off to Harrogate MG CLUB meeting tonight.

Glad to hear they've worked! Try send the others back if they're not fit for purpose, I've sent spares back before I wasn't happy with.

Heading off to the show at Ripon Race course in a bit, give mine a run out

Cheers

Jeremy
