It's time to start earthing my engine and I intend on using multiple (3) earths just to be sure. Can I earth directly to the block as there is a redundant bolt into the side of the block near the front of the engine? If not where are the best places to earth to and from?

Thanks.

the battery earth (-ve on V8's) connects to the car body/chassis. Make sure the body has a good connection to anything Hooked up to the electrical harness. The engine/gearbox is on rubber mounts do must have a connection. I have one close to the gear box mount and another on a convenient bellhousing bolt.

Iwan,

I've got a couple of earth points. One where you asked about and the other is from the gearbox to the x-member mounting point on the underbody.

You can't have too many grounds.

Here's a couple of photos from your thread about steady bars showing my engine ground strap.

For the MG, I like to use a dual post type battery, then run a heavy lead from the top post to the transmission tailshaft for starting and alternator, and a smaller lead from the side post to the body. Then if the coil packs are mounted off the engine a light weight ground strap in front makes a nice short path for the spark.
