I recently bought a 1972 MGB with a Rover 3.5 and LT77 transmission and near as I can tell a MGC rear end.. It was completed about 10 years ago but for some reason it was disassembled and I got it in that condition. I got the motor in the engine bay but it seems the transmission mounts are missing. I have the MGB cross member and as far as I can tell everything else. Does anyone know where I can locate the correct mounts? I am kind of learning as I go not sure if the mounts are MGB or Rover part number. Any help, advice would be appreciated.

Bob,

the LT 77 was the universal 5-speed box from BL. It was used in the Rover SD1 with the 3.5 V8 and the 2.6 I6 as well as on Jaguars of this vintage and in different commercials.
Later they changed bearings and shafts and it became the R380 (MG RV8). Both Versions have identical rear mounts. The LT 77 was first introduced in the Rover SD1 V8 in 1975.
Hope this helps a little to source the missing mounts.

Ralph

For my BV8 conversion with the LT77, I used brackets obtained from Clive Wheatley in the UK: http://mgv8.homestead.com/index.html

I just looked on the site but can't find the brackets. Suggest you contact Clive to inquire. These brackets attach to an original MGB x-member after its brackets are cut off. I've got some photos at home I'll post later.

If I remember correctly, the RV8 gearbox mount/cross member is a direct bolt in.

That would make sense as the RV8 uses the LT77 and R380 gearboxes and the MGB x-member. Locating one will pose a problem though.

Bob, I have a H/D trans. mt. that I have used for over 32 years now & it is a bolt in after you drill & thread the O/E mt. holes to 3/8 fine & the cross member gets mod. & it comes right out. Will get pics. & post this weekend.
