I am using harland sharp roller rockers with .250 shims under the pedestals. It seems to me that the stock stamped sheet metal valve cover will not fit over the rockers when at full lift. Anyone have a similar issue? I have not tried this yet but I can't see there being enough clearance.

I guess my next strategy would be to make a custom taller valve cover by making two covers into one.

May not be a problem unless you are lengthening the pushrods too.:)-D

I will be using longer pushrods to make sure the geometry is correct. Before lift, I can only see about .200 clearance. what have people done to adress this?

Paul... glue two valve cover gaskets together, you'll get back that 1/4" from the shim.

I have the same setup and the standard cover fits fine. The cam on my supercharged engine probably has more lift than you are going to use as well.

With the 1275, we had to run the larger aluminum valve covers, and even then we had to clearence the inside of the aluminum cover. I have zero clearecne issue on my MGB race engine with 1.625 ratio Titan roller roacker arm and the tin cover.

I'm not big fan of the Harland Sharp product , if you use their 1.5 ratio on stock pedestals, it askews the geomentry somethng terrible, and the push rods get close to the inside of the poushord bore hole in head, with the X flow head, it has to clearecned/oblonged here, never tried this HS set up on stock head, where the pushrod bores are bigger, but even then if you go to tubular pushrods, they are going to be bigger in diameter than stock, so you need to account for that, and a possible push rod to head clearence issue. The issue with the HS 1.5 ratio set up is the stock pedestals are not for 1.5 ratio, even thought the ratio change is slight, and shim will make it better, the pivot hole in the stock pedestal, and because of this it move the rocker arm roller tip further over the tip of the valve towrd the poush roid side of the head. The best way to do this would be make a ofset for the rocker arm pedestal to refelect the correct ratio of the rocker arm, otherwise i see this whole exercise as being futal,and one would be better off sticking with stock rocker arms. I see going to roller roacker arms as reason to get more rastio, thus more lift, the 1.5 ratio doesn't offer that, even with the shims the lift increase is minute, without the shim, you actually go backwards in lift vs stock, because of the bad geomentry.

Titans are out of my price range for this build.

I just finished cutting two valve covers to make one tall one, it came out pretty nice. I added about 1/2 inch. I think this will solve my problem as long as it fits under the hood :-)

I am using the spacers and have calculated the geometry per Sean Brown. 3/8" tubular pushrods. 18V lifter. .295 lobe lift off a delta D9 cam.

I don't know about price, a set of HS bare roller roacker arms are about $300, then you need a new shaft and new hardware, every set of HS I ever had to work had to have the adjuster threads in the rocker arm bodies re tapped, so if you add up new adjuster hardware, hardened shaft and the cost of solid spacers (I would not use roller rockers w/o solid spacers) then if consider 1.625 ratio Titans come with all of this including custom, correct ratio pedestals, and everyhting mentioned above is included with the Titan, at little over $500 delivered to your door form the UK, then HS doesn't save you much money. Persoanlly I discourage roller rocker arms for a street engine, if soneone just has to have them, then OK, but if you not going for a decnet ratio increase, why bother, and if you doing this for a sizable ratio increse on a street engine, then you ned to back down on the cam you are using, so it stsrts to look like money not so well spent for a street engine, and more about just having roller rocker arms, for a race car, then it's different story, we are trying to get all the lift we can get. FWIW, I tell the same thing to any of street engien customer, but at the end of the day if they just have to have roller roackler arfms, because that puts a smile on thier face, then we go for it, i will be soon building a MGB street engine that will sport 1.625 Titan with a VP11 cam.
