I hate doing plumbing. The VERY BEST you can hope for is to break even. No leaks.
Well, I 've got one small one, but I'll get it. I hate doing plumbing.
Whats the worst you ever did? I once installed an outside faucet and it leaked like a sieve. Fortunately, in Utah the water is so heavy with lime that it sealed itself in a couple of weeks.
Now in Oregon, off a well, no lime. Crap.

This car is now very nearly completely done. Sure to find something else, but not now.........And 12 years later, I'm starting to fix things that were new when we built the car. It's pretty well de-bugged!

I would rather install MGB windshields and heater boxes.

Hey, Wayne, you know I did all the plumbing for our carriage house. All the abs drains were fine. All the pex water lines were great...no leaks. But the tail pieces on both sinks had to be done twice...both leaked first try. Just about every joint with Teflon tape had to be done twice (where the pex was adapted to the shutoffs)...second time with both tape and paste.
Then, several weeks ago I put a new tailpiece on the bathroom sink in the house. Leaked the first time so had to redo it!

...frozen copper in a crawl space in January......copper filled with ice water doesn't want to melt its solder joints.....so while holding a mapp gas torch to it my "assistant" smacked the elbow with a hammer and when it popped loose it sent scalding hot water pouring on my trapped leg. I had a big ole map of Italy burned into my thigh for many years..........

My uncle-in-law had a mobile home up on the Sauda River in a beautiful setting. It was right onthe river. He left the heat off, we had a cold snap - every piece of copper tubing in the the thing froze and split. Helped him replace it, fishing new pipe through the "ducts" in the floor. Wadda mess that was. Flared fittings, leaks around the flare nuts. NEVER want to see that kind of piping system ever again.

Rod, yer weird! Where the heck did that clip come from? I'm still laughing!
Chris, this sink was not valuable. My house is a "manufactured" home, which means it was built in a factory and moved here after. They installed the cheapest parts in the world. My faucet on the kitchen sink was plastic with chrome plating.
Only got one more thing to "do over". Water filter for drinking must have a bit of tape over the hose. Water comes out very slowly.
More details to come!

I have done lots and lots of plumbing, too many rent houses, too many houses that we lived in that we decided we needed to do something. the hardest thing to catch on to for most novices is with plumbing and threaded or compression fittings is that too loose and leaks, too tight and leaks, just right and no leaks. it is a learned skill. And soldering copper is simple, once you learn that cleanliness is paramount, and just the right amount of flux is also paramount, and heat applied in the right amount is paramount, and heat applied in the right place is paramount.
And anyone can glue PVC pipe, slop it on and go. yeah, right. It takes practice to do it well

David, I've done lots of plumbing also. But that don't mean I got to like it!
Like every other thing you do, skill and some knowledge go a long way. I would just prefer NOT developing these particular skills!

Copper is great, I can see why professional plumbers like it.
I did a second bath in my previous home, and since most of the existing plumbing was copper I went with that. I don't know how many joints there were, but there were a lot to run up to the second floor and to do a sink, toilet, and claw foot tub. To make it more complicated, the tub was in a different room than the toilet and sink
Anyway, I had never sweated copper before and was more than a bit concerned....but not one leak anywhere!
Wayne, that clip is from Terry Gilliam's masterpiece film "Brazil". I can't believe you haven't seen it!
