Found this on my Midget, two of them actually. A 90 degree plumbing fitting on the radiator hoses by the PO.

Best one I have seen was the "Yard Water Faucet" 1/2" NPT Stuck into a piece of rubber hose, STUCK into the bigger hose on the bottom of the "Anti Run On Valve" to keep the gas from running out. They saqid it was hard to start and kicked out a lot of BLACK smoke. YOU THINK ???????

Hey that looks down right innovative to me! Cheaper and probably longer lasting than the current crop of hoses.

Here's my version how I think it happened...

About 4 years ago, the rad hose burst on a weekend when the previous owner was getting ready to go to some British car get-together.
"Oh no!! Got to fix this quickly..."
He cuts out the burst part and luckily finds a straight piece of hose laying around, and also luckily finds that a 90 degree PVC connector has the same diameter as the ID of the hoses to connect the two hoses together.
"Ah, that will hold at least for the weekend."
"... I'll get around to replacing it ASAP next week."

About 6 months later, "I've got to remember to replace that radiator hose, but as long as it keeps holding, I've got time...."

Fast forward 4 years and it's time to sell the car: "I'll advertise for $10,000, because that's what I have in it"
Showing the car to potential buyers: "I'll replace that hose for you too, if I get my price"
After 6 months on the market, highest offer is $1500: "OK, I'll agree to $1500, but 'as is' ".

That's my story how it all happened -- at least that is how it would have happened in my house.

Picture that same sort of repair, but with electrical tape to get a "tap" off the headlight harness to install two fog lights and truck horn. That's what the previous owner did to illuminate the front of my last Midget. There was a toggle switch on the dash to operate the fog lights and a button from Radio Shack for the horn. Guess he needed 12v and only expected to honk at people after dark. Perhaps a bootlegger????

After replacing the Siamese'd hose on my MGB years ago I bought some pipe and made the equivalent of the factory piece that came on the older cars. Used straight generic hose from the local auto parts store bought for peanuts. Been threatening to do the same on Midgets....especially after the last unusable bottom hose I received from Moss.

Kurt.

A little off topic, but the heater hoses on all my Midgets except the current one started out as a garden hose cut to size. Luckily I never operated those heaters at maximum capacity or even turned the faucet on!

They're like roaches. If you see one than there are hundreds more hiding. I wonder how many of these repairs others have. Might make a good off topic post. I know I have some.

Thought about saying something about this. But it's not worth the hassle
