I think these readings maybe cause for concern (see pics).
Engine runs great & compressions are all close to 150 psi.
It does blow some blue smoke out the exhaust though. Oil is brand new Castrol 20/50.
I have a spare sending unit so will try that & see if it makes any difference.

X2 on a pressure gauge to measure the oil pressure - don't like to trust the gauge on an old car that has been sitting...my 72 dash gauge showed almost no pressure (when we fired it up after sitting for 17 years) but my threaded in gauge showed pressure was normal. The tube to the gauge had a kink in it under the dash...

Update:
OK, I tested with a gauge (no easy task especially with the auto transmission filler tube right next to the sending unit) and the pressure was close to 40 psi at about 1100 rpm. Reving the engine did not increase the pressure hardly at all.
So whilst not great, certainly a relief that the engine is not totally clapped out.
That was the good news.
Feeling confident that my back up sender unit would do the trick, I set about installing it. However, when I switched on the ignition, the gauge immediately rose to 50 psi (without the engine running). I guess I now have 2 bad sending units.
Pieter, thanks for the info on the sending unit, that's what I am going to need (much better solution than a reconditioned engine).
