Just came across this in a recent issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car. Apparently, you do not even need a radio to install it, but it can work in conjunction with OEM radios. A bit pricey, but pretty cool, too.

I have one of these units mounted in my glove box with the IR remote control receiver hidden on the firewall. It is so small you could mount in under the seat, etc. Only $22US.

As a owner of a 63 sprite and 59 Turner 950s I understand the challenges of integrating audio into these classic vehicles.
I designed this equipment to be versatile across the entire classic car spectrum by offering a wide operating voltage from 6 volts all the way to 24 volts and being compatible with positive and negative earth vehicles.
I would like to offer 10% refund back on any purchase from outofsightaudio.com until Jan 1 2015.
Enter (MGEXP 10% refund) in the notes section during checkout.
Please feel free to email me with any specific questions you may have about my products at info@outofsightaudio.com.
Thank you for your time, Matt Mcclurg
P.S. - I have read in some of the other posts about the sound quality of Bluetooth and I assure you that the sound quality is actually excellent and is comparable to any corded connection.

I removed the radio the next day I bought my B, 3 years ago, then I made a new console.
I never, ever feel the need for radio talk or music in my B. I rather listen to the exhaust.
Now, that alternative is very interesting to keep intact the original look. Better than those recent radio inserted into the original slot...

Agree that radio is unnecessary most times, but I take several longish (over 500 mile) trips over the year, and it's nice to have music on the long drives. With Pandora, it's especially nice to not have to search for local radio stations or listen to never ending commercials.

If your radio/stereo already has an auxiliary audio input then plug your iphone or other audio source directly into the radio for best sounding audio. Don't put a bluetooth device such as this in between to seriously downgrade the audio quality.

Bluetooth was not designed to stream audio so you may not like the way it sounds.
is there some different version of BT in modern cars? because i think its always sounded great on all of the OEM systems ive used my phone with.

See the link I posted above. Bluetooth can vary in sound quality, but can be fine for car audio. Like lots of things, "it depends".
