This is on my pedal box... I am inquiring about the square piece with an electrical hook up on either side... I think my mechanic said I dont need this anymore with the new ignition that I have? Thanks for your help in this matter.

ballast resistor. it's NLA, so if you remove it, don't throw it away...
Bishop is correct. It is the ballast resistor for the original Lucas-Opus electronic ignition, which came a standard equipment on your car. You apparently have an aftermarket ignition module or distributor on your engine now. That O-ring just to the left is there to prevent your cable from chafing. It goes into the hole in the bracket just in front of it or into the firewall. You might want to get it back into its position. Everything else in the picture looks good to go, i.e. original to the car and in the correct position, though a bit dirty. Do you have a garden hose?
