Has anyone tried this starter from BPNW? I'm a fan of gear reduction starters and really like permanent magnet starters. This one looks just like the one we use on a 3.0L gas engine we use in our gensets. That one is bullet proof.

I'm still using an original '68 pre-engaged starter that required $1 in repairs 30 years ago. The car always starts right up. RAY

Kenny (dipstick) has one on his car that he bought from me, brand new, and he can speak to its durability. I found that it won't work on positive earth cars, which is why I sold it.

Here's a short discussion of the two types of gear reduction starters:

Well I know about the offset gear reduction starters (Denso). I have one on my Magnette. It works very good. What I don't like about it is only 2 screws holding the 2 bolt flange to the GR housing. I have seen those flanges fail. What I like about the one in the original post is the 2 bolt flange is part of the GR reduction housing. BTW I also have a GR starter (DENSO) on my Morris Minor from an Isuzu truck (pictured below). It has a fixed flange. Tried on the MGB but it hits the foot well.

I have successfully used gear reduction starters on the racecar and street MGB-GT for many years. For the street 1971 I used the gear reduction starter so I could use the hanging oil filter.

Be safe out there.

I like mine. I was told they all use the same actual starter A couple of people make the back plate, so some small differences. I also changed my battery cables to 6 Ga. Cables, as in moving the ground cable up to the bolt right above the starter. It seems to hit harder, but that is subjective. I use one on my Morgan too. Very happy.

The one from bpnw isn't the same nippondenso high torque gear reduction starter as British Starters.
Don't confuse the two.
