Need to replace my pinion seal. Have looked at several videos on various types of vehicles. and understand how to get the proper torque back to where it was. With marking everything to reassemble. Are there any particular things on a 71 B that might slow me down? looks like a pretty straight forward job. Tips or tricks would be appreciated. Thanks Bman65

I replaced mine two years ago. I marked everything with 'Whiteout', re-aligned on assembly, no need for torque wrench. Turned out to be a fairly easy job, didn't even lose any oil.

Be very careful removing the pinion nut if you are working under the car. The force required to loosen the nut is enough to roll the car or pull it off jackstands if not compensated.

I have piece of 1/2" angle iron with two holes drilled such that I can bolt it to the yoke, let the angle iron rest on the floor and spin the nut off. Same procedure for reinstalling. Rather than paint, I made good punch marks on the shaft and the nut to index for reinstall. As noted, just reinstall the nut the same number of turns and line up the index marks. A seal puller will help with removing the seal.

Mike-
Just which pinion seal are you asking about? The one on the steering rack, or the one on the rear axle? If its the one on the rear axle, which rear axle? Salisbury Tube-Type or Hardy-Spicer Banjo-Type?
