You don't expect it from someone here...
I sent an email yesterday with the last day for purchase to get a calendar by Christmas; this email exchange then occurs over 17 hours.

I kid you not, I have not changed anything at all, except for a reduction in the size of his font in his second email.
Outed because of the completely unnecessary threat...
One of my sons is to be wed in Reno. We will be staying in Tahoe with family.
I have never met Craig.
His address opted-in, in time for the May 29, 2017 email asking for photos of MGs and kids.

Well hello there, Craig!
Great to hear from you, how are things in Fountain Valley, California? Hope the fires stay well away from your garage.

I got this embarrassing email from your email address. It obviously didn't come from you, no one who owns an MG would write an email like that.
It seems someone has hacked your email account. You probably want to change your password right away, at the very least.

Just thought I would let you know it happened.

Good morning to you too Craig,
I see now that you really did purposely send a foul email.
Forgive me for giving you the opportunity to graciously save your reputation.

Your email was quite happily removed from the MGB email list, and within three hours of the request.
For the record you were sent a total of eight emails since you opted in to the mailing list.

I don't get it...Some milquetoast gets her pretty pink panties in a wad simply because they've been added to a mailing list from a seasoned/respected member of a small forum.? Yeah, had it included a root boring virus or something...that may have sent her progesterone levels into low earth orbit...but it didn't.

Much easier to simply ignore or fwd to Spam I'd think.

She obviously wants to buy you a drink and talk about it in the biggest little town in the U.S.A as well.

Blowhard...

Merry Christmas!

...answer your questions...

How did you get on the list?

Most likely one of these.
IF you have ever:
bought anything from me
expressed interest in a product I was working on (I'll collect email addresses to notify when it becomes available)
participated in designing something with me
emailed me about anything MG (my email is readily available)
sold me anything
had an in depth MG side conversation with me
cruised with me
visited me
I visited you
called me for weber advice
exchanged email addresses at a show
left your email address at a show or tech session (those are often available to outside vendors from show management)
emailed me
If you are high profile and easy to find online (I put a well known part rebuilder on the list but he asked to be removed immediately so I did.)
opted in at www.mgbcalendar.com
are one of the "MGE 11" or supported them
PM'd me regarding something behind the scenes
appear on a car club membership list that became public

That's about it.
Oh, the Master Consumer List also has a subcategory by cars registered, I couldn't afford to buy the whole list but I bought some areas and sorted by MGB.

Sometimes a new member here will have an issue I help with and end up adding them.
Some of your spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, brothers etc are on the list so they can buy presents for you and gave up your email address so you see things and talk about them and they know what you want.. then they go buy it elsewhere eye rolling smiley

By the way I keep a "withdrawn" email list so people do not get re-aded accidentally though there is someone that seems to opt out and back in every few months so there's that too.

39 posts, I went to each thread.
I have to the best of my knowledge, never even posted in the same thread as Craig.

Now he is seeking MG related websites and posting nasty stuff.
I got an email from the MG group on Yahoo...
I didn't know he was a member there.

Here's his post on 12/13/17 at 3:48 PM in that group:

In reply to a post by MGgroup@yahoo Anyone know this a$$?
I wrote two nice emails and several nasty emails and he is still spamming me.
WTF does it take to get him to stop?
I did block him today
I figured i would warn others about this clown.
If you Communicate in anyway you will end up on his spam list.

Do not buy his MG calendar

Are you guys on my list? I wouldn't know without tracing your email addresses back.
When someone sends an opt-in or opt out I simply get an "add this email to your list" or "remove this email from your list."
Usually no name.
Often when I get an opt-out I have to go through a list of email addresses with the person opting out and it turns out to be an email they forgot they had that is forwarded to their current email address. Most people are really quite polite about it, and I handle it manually so I try to do it quickly and in a business like manner.

Actually I have received some strange emails from people and contacted them and their email accounts had been hacked and I get thanks for the heads up... you never know. I was really surprised with Craig's initial email yesterday, it was completely out of left field. I was pretty darned sure it was a case of a hacked email account. Til he wrote back that is.

Surely it's as easy as that? Why the need for his vitriol?

How does one get like that over a few of what he considers SPAM emails?

Maybe his picture didn't get picked..winking smiley

See that's the point. It isn't SPAM and if someone doesn't want to hear from me, use the link and opt out. Last March I had 46 people use the link to opt-out. It happens every year after the calendar is done, they opted in to be notified when the calendar was available, bought presents, then when I sent the mail out in the new year they used the link to opt-out. Some used it to notify me of an email address change.

Most people do not know what constitutes SPAM.

Email spam, unsolicited bulk email (UBE), junk mail, or unsolicited commercial email (UCE), is the practice of sending unwanted email messages, with commercial content, in large quantities to an indiscriminate set of recipients.

My list is a collection of email addresses I have collected over the last 10 years All are specifically MG owners and MG lovers who want to see what I am up to with MG styled products. I hear regularly from T-series, Midget, Magnette and B owners. These people are friends and co-MG community members. I definitely do not want to burden them with unnecessary email. It isn't spam.

Likewise the email company requires me to have 99.95% deliverable email addresses. That means for a list of a thousand names no more than a half of one email is allowed to be returned. They likewise require me to exercise the email list regularly to keep the list deliverable. That meanssending an email every 30-45 days and removal of undeliverable addresses immediately. My list size makes it very difficult it is to meet their deliverability requirements.

I average 36 days between emails unless there is an issue. For instance I sent out an email with an error and had to send a correction a few days laterwhich changed my average to 30 days. In reality I send more at the end of the year during calendar time. In 2017 year I sent a total of 12 emails. They were in Jan, Feb, March, July, November and December.

The 12 emails this year were:
One offered discounted merchandise, leftover from Christmas, ordered but never paid .
Three requests for photos, the fewest photo request emails in a year ever. I had a very good number of photos this year.
Three emails were the Mother's Day MG watch, including the correction email. (my wife, mother-in-law, two daughters and two daughter-in-laws each got one; I am my best customer. I wear MG shirts and jackets almost every day.)One included a guide to the 13 lubrication points on an MGB.
One had the message "Hello, To keep the list fresh I have to send out an email every 45 days. Thanks for understanding."
Two were for the pens.
Two were for the calendars.

A spammer would send twelve messages a month or even twelve a week.

Ian, you never know.
Maybe his car went up in the fires in CA over the weekend and he is just lashing out... but...

FWIW, I went to your profile, snagged your email address; to see how long you have been on my list, and that address isn't on the list. How long you have been throwing away my emails?
