The overdrive in my '69 B stopped engaging late last year. Checked to make sure the oil in the gearbox was full (it was), so I embarked on cleaning/servicing the overdrive following the John Twist video series. Unfortunately I noted the suction tube that extends into the sump is missing. SO how important is this piece ? I located the part in the Moss catalog (466-325) as well as the on-line catalog listed on the Quantum Mechanics website - but both list the part as not available. I've spent several hours of searching websites in Canada, the US and UK and most show no mention of this tube - so is it actually needed? Has anyone run across having to replace it ? I really don't want to reassemble without knowing if this is really needed.
Thanks !
Thanks !

Functionally the tube is not required which is borne out by the fact that the your OD was working without it, or at least until it packed up for other reasons.
The consequence of it not being there though is that it renders the filter completely ineffectively so the problem you've now got could well be down to debris which the filter is there to catch and that may or may not be fixable without removal.
The good news as far as replacing the tube goes is that it's a simple 5/16" UNF thread which means that you can easily fabricate a replacement from a standard bolt, the height from the shoulder is 0.6" and the bore is 3/16".
My advice at the moment would be to refit the sump without the tube and see if what you've done so far has got the OD working because if not then unfortunately you have bigger problems and lack of the tube becomes a peripheral issue.
