Took my 66 GT to an automated car wash today. As I used the foam brush the soapy residue was slathered in the red color of my car. I'm happy the car is clean, but can some of you paint specialists/chemists out there explain to me what happened. Car DEFINITELY needs a paint job now even though it was inevitable but further down the road before. Thanks!

It time to do a complete paint restoration.
Is it single stage of base/clear?
A full Saturday and the right procedures and it will look like new.

That was the plan before getting paint estimates. Thanks Rick.

You need to take the car to a detailer.
Check with some local body shops and see if you can find someone good to work on the car.
I would expect to pay $400 or so.

You mean that purchasing the miracle paint/scratch/swirl fixer-upper found on late night TV won't restore your finish to factory shine?? But.....they say it works.
Seriously though...I'd try a reputable detailer to start with. Don't trust some young kid working at a "detail factory" either. Find a reputable body shop and ask them who they send their "light work" to and call them.

73 MGB. Tires: Round, black, hold air. Oil: Sometimes old, sometimes new...always slippery. Oil filter: Yellow, usually full of oil. Carbs: 2 SU HIF. Distributor: Yes. Headlights: Not that bright but bright enough. A bunch of other stuff most cars have but not really important enough to itemize. Oh, wait...it has a cool sounding exhaust with stickers on the chrome tips. Really slays the ladies...

you can do it yourself for well under $200 and do a better job than the detailer.

If you were here on the West coast, you could take your car into Griots Garage and they would do an evaluation on it and tell you what to use.
