Don't know about clips, but that is an air horn by the door. With the grille and "exhaust" mods I think this has been made into a Mercedes SSK look-alike. Unfortunately it now looks more like a reversed replica of a VW-based Gazelle-look-alike...

Those are "Lift-the-Dot" fasteners attached to the headlights. For driving in France were yellow headlights were compulsory, Lucas had plastic transparent yellow covers which were attached to the headlights with similar fixings. I thought that even the works BMC rally cars had them. When entering France you simply installed the covers and you were in compliance with traffic law.

(It's possible this TD has a European connection since there are a Spanish Car Club and a French National Flag badge on the grille)
Just my two cents....

Ick! It'll take a lot to straighten that car out. Lots of holes to repair. Early sixties Chevy mirrors on scuttle, those fake exhaust pipes are hideously garish. No tack strip for hood, looks like studs sticking out of tub rear top timber, may have had some sort of hardtop at one time.

Tom's comment about a reverse engineered kitcar wannabe is pretty close to my opinion as well. $6000 if the running gear checks out would be too much for me JMHO. You'd never break even value wise on it iif you were to make the car right... again JMHO

I on the other hand think it very fairly priced assuming the wood subframe is in good condition. The normal fix for France are cad light bulbs but the explanation above is certainly reasonable and the two lamp studs could be either lift a dot or tenex...hard to see and I imagine the former. I personally can discount the whatever the custom intent was especially with the correct "right hand hood part" included in the sale...I hope it too was painted when the car recently saw the gun. The horn, mirror, goofy exhaust (probably not intake on the drivers side) are all correctable.

Maybe I'm lost in the TD world but I paid about 6K 37 years ago to a man on Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills for a TD and it was the pick of 3 for sale at that time for about the same cost in the greater LA area. 29614 total production nearly 70 years ago isn't what I'd call bona fide rare but certainly trending that direction IMHO.

Robert Kirk

For $13.5K you could do far better.

So I guess those dryer vent hoses just wiggle around on the fender while you drive?

Robert Kirk: I have to disagree with you. T-series MGs have definitely NOT kept up with the rest of the surge in old car pricing - I think you will have a long wait. With almost 30,000 TDs made, you can still have your pick of whatever cars you find. A VERY nice TD will still struggle to sell at $25,000, a nice driver is in the 9-12,000 range, and I can still buy all the partsd cars I want for $5,000 or less. You can still find TCs for less than $15,000!

This white MercedesG is perhaps worth $9k in my book, and am pretty sure one would struggle to find someone who wanted it at that. It's a modified car in a non-original color, and to return it to factory specs would be prohibitive. These were never terribly rare cars, and still aren't - just look at the number that are for sale at any given time on eBay. More than all the contemporaries - Jag, Healey, etc.

I would take off the extras that have been added on and it would be fine for me. The holes could be taken care of without a ton of work. If you could get it for 10,000 and it runs good and is rust free? That would be a good deal.

Unfortunately it's still refrigerator (Mercedes) white then, with white wheels and whiutewall tires. I can think of few less attractive colors, except for the John Deere car...

I guess it all depends on how much work you want to do to the car. For less than the asking car you can still haver your choice of nice, presentable, needing nothing TDs - not a show car, but still a very nice green or red or black car.

My $.02
