I have heard that the 1275 with twin HS2 runs a little better if the mixture is slightly richer.

I use a Colortune glass spark plug to achieve a Bunsen Blue flame.

I also use a Carbalancer.

I the READ the plugs. Brick Red electrodes.

Should go ONE FLAT richer on each carb?

Would this be an improvement or not?

I guess you could say try it and see!

I would appreciate some opinions before I start messing with the car.

When I attended my Local British Car Club tune and tech.

The two parts that I did not get right on my car were the following:
1. Mixture I was running too lean, I was told to check the plugs after running it for a bit and adjust. White too lean, black too rich, brown just right.
2. Timing, we adjusted the timing until the car would have a smooth idle. The big test for that was to gun it in second gear from slow speed, If the car hesitated or stalled then the timing needed more adjustment.

I am sure someone will correct me, as I would like to learn more as well.

Bill.

My car hesitates when you load it up in second gear. Perhaps I need to advance the timing a little.

Which way do you rotate the distributor to advance the timing (1275)?

Clockwise, there is a thumb screw for fine tuning bottom of advance shaft. It has an A and R on the body, sometimes needs a little cleaning to read it.

Thanks for that.

My distributor has has that adjustment wheel removed at some time in its past.

If you are missing that wheel then there would be no way of locking the distributor plate and could be the source of all kind's of problems.

Kurt.

Is the little wheel for fine tuning, or just to keep the dizzy shaft snug? Mine is frozen in place.

If you look real close you will see an "A & R" with a double arrow between them
You can vary timing with the wheel. It may be there to retard it a little when hand cranking.

As I remember it only changes the timing a few degrees. I imagine it was to compensate for different fuel. The wheel does keep the Vac advance which is attached to the points plate from moving in and out.
