Good evening all...I’m mainly on the MGB forum and need the measurement from the tip that goes into the tranny to the mid point of the ‘ball’ of an MGA shift lever. If anyone has one lying around I would really appreciate it.
Thanks, Rut

Rut,
I have my original tranny and gear shift lever out of the car. I can measure it but I am not exactly sure what you want me to measure.

Jim,
Thank you! The measurement that I need is from the tip of the ball that goes in the transmission to the large ball that the lever pivots on.
Thanks, Rut

Rut,
The measurement is 5-7/8” center to center. The picture makes it look a little less than that but it’s because of the lens angle on my phone. Hope this is what you want.

Jim

Jim,
The measurement I’m looking for is the shift lever tip to the larger ball that it pivots on...wish I was gooD with computers and I would draw a diagram.
Thanks, Rut

Rut, even I'm confused. The small round ball at the bottom of the gear lever sits into a cup. What measurements do you want??

Gary,
From that small round ball (tip) to the base of the big round ball (fulcrum) on the end of the shift lever that fits in the transmission.
Thanks again, Rut

That’s what I measured. It’s 5-7/8”.

The small round ball has a brass cup on it.

Just out of curiosity, why do you need that measurement?

Jim

He might be talking about the small ball down at the lower end of the shift lever, that goes into the linkage that goes forward that you pictured, measured vertically up to the lower point of the large 'ball' on the shifter that fits into the socket - short distance, maybe 1-2"?

This thread was about the 3-synch MGB gearboxes. But maybe some useful into?

OK Rut. You owe me big time. I took my gear shift lever assembly apart and here’s what the lever looks like.

Jim,
Thank you! Is the end of the tape measure and the end of the shift lever at the same point? It’s difficult to tell from your pictures, but that’s the info I need and it appears that the measurement is 1 3/4” below the big (fulcrum) ball to the tip?
Thanks again, Rut

Rut,
Yes, the end of the tape measure and the bottom of the small ball are lined up.
