I just had a friend text me asking about the fibre washer on the Lift the Dots. Where does it install, above or under the back panel? Thanks for your help.

Thanks Anthony. He said he tried that but they looked too high. I guess once he torques them down they should be ok. Cheers.

There are some washers out there that are far too thick. They should be about the thickness of a piece of poster board.

They are not the best quality but if you think about it their purpose is to prevent moisture from getting under them and in contact with the body, something they couldn't possibly do from underneath because it's already in by the time it gets there.

Also I'd like to be a fly on the wall when somebody was trying to fit a seal to the underside of the rear deck studs which are all but inaccessible just for putting a nut on !

Exactly -- I have one loose post on the deck -- and it happens to be the one with no access underneath. No way to get it fastened without a nut.

They all have access from below, just very difficult with 'normal' hands/fingers.

The rear most two are "best" accessed from in the trunk...even then they can be mildly irritating.

Glue the nut and washer together and set in a box end wrench with a piece of tape across the bottom of the wrench for the nut to sit on...it helps to have or make a long wrench of the size used,

Replacement nut sizes seem to vary from 5/16 to 19/32 to 3/8". I use a small pair of padded vice grips to turn and tighten the stud from the top.

Or stick it on a finger then screw the stud into the nut.

I sourced thin nylon washers to use on the cars that I've done. They work fine.

I just did mine with thin SS washers, not too obtrusive at all, easy to seal under, looks good IMO. Those 2 are tricky, but doable especially with a socket from above and only gripping the nut from turning under the rear deck from the boot.

Everywhere is accessible, stubby fingers (like mine) or pianists fingers. Long nose pliers, bent nose pliers, Vaseline or grease, all help to get the job done.

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled but which is largely back together so I'm a lot less ignorant.
