So, I jinxed myself. I've been driving my MG to work every day this week since the humidity and temperatures have gone down. Last night I said to my wife how much fun I had driving the car this week. The car must have heard. I went out this morning and smelled a little bit of raw gas. That's not uncommon. I drove to work and shut the car off, and the smell of gas was even stronger. I popped the hood and gas was streaming off the bottom of the front float bowl (HS4 carbs). I can't tell from the top if it's the bowl or if it is the line from the bowl to the jet. I guess I will be taking the carbs off tomorrow to take a look. It feels like the bottom of the bowl might be cracked.

I had a similar problem with my HS4 carbs. However, I sort of knew it was the float gaskets. Once replace, no more leaking carbs. Be interesting to hear if it is a cracked bowl. I've not heard of that, but then I am sort of new. In the past few years on this forum, I've not heard of a cracked bowl. But I stand to be educated!

Leakage from the bottom of the HS4 bowl is almost always that infernal little plastic hose. More precisely, it is the rubber "gland". The gland is kind of a squarish O-ring. VB sells them separately, Moss does not. I think Joe Curto does.

In a pinch, you can use two Viton O-rings stacked on top of each other. Make very sure the old gland is removed from the hole before you put the new one in.

Terry, Sorry if I filled your PM inbasket.

Are you talking about this little rubber piece in the middle?
