Is this a 1500 engine? Oil filter adapter is different.

I have a rebuilt engine supposedly from a 75 Midget 1500cc.
BUT, while it appears similar in general to my 76, the oil filter head looks drastically different from mine.
In checking some on-line workshop manuals as well as my 1975-79 Workshop manual, I can't find a similar filter head.
Can anyone help identifying what year (or engine) this is?
Thanks.

That engine was used in many applications. Mainly Triumph. The Spitfire is the same basic engine with a few differences. I drove my nieces 4 door Dolomite in Italy in 2012, It had a 1500 in it. I believe the main difference from Spit to Midget was oil pick up in sump. Your MG oil filter adapter will probably bolt right o.

Upside down filter vs horizontal filter on my 76 (as well as in the examples in my workshop manual.
What model used that? Supposedly from an original from a 75 Midgie.

I think that is the same offset filter adapter but it is on wrong. Loosen the center bolt and rotate it 180 degrees. The main reason for the adapter is that the steering shaft was too close to the filter so they made the offset adapter to make more clearance.

I'm not a 1500 Triumph engine owner but there were several changes from the first year to the later one's so it could be right. Also as Philip mentioned the Spitfire is where BL got the engine from. I had one in a parts purchase deal but sold it years ago. Don't remember it looking like that one.

You might want to seek help from the guys over on the Triumph Experience for definitive help on the 1500.
Folks here are very helpful, but they tend to be A series gurus with a definite bias towards the A series engines...IMHO
If it ain't broke, I'll fix it until it is!
