I have a 1970 Midget and, although it has almost no rust, I still need minor body work, paint, and a whole new interior. I'm thinking Dark BRG with Autumn Leaf interior.

My question is this: I like the look of the '69 better. Change out the grille, remove the front markers, change the boot emblem and add side trim. I'd keep the '70 interior since '69 doesn't come in Autumn Leaf (I believe). Is that MG Taboo?

Tan interior and a tan cloth top look TERRIFIC with BRG, a true classic ! ! The Autumn Leaf is a bit dark and kind of orange, biscuit works better.

Sounds like a good plan to me. When I was choosing the color of BRG I wanted for my car I went outside the MG family. I went with a 2002 BRG from Aston Martin. It is DARK and has no metallic.

Here's how the '70 looks with the earlier bumpers and grille and no side lights. Also put on the earlier rear license plate light and all red tail light lenses. I left the side and hood trim off -- they're a project for another year.

If that's what you want then you should do it. It's your car, you can make it look like anything you want!

The MG on the grill has to go! The rest looks good, eliminate the headrests, even better find some early seats.

Where are the headrests? MG is one of. Maybe find split front bumpers. JM

I didn't say that car had headrests, his seats would.

The great part about owning an old car is the freedom to do whatever you want with it man, the only thing I suggest is to be honest about what it is. Thats the only thing that pisses me off when people make a car look older or like a different model is when they try to pass it off as something its not. There's no shame in it, so why lie about it is always my question. I have a '67 in red so I can see why you'd want to mimic the look, she's a beauty tongue sticking out smiley.

Thanks for all your input. I really appreciate it.

Trevor, I'm going to have to look into that 2002 BRG from Aston Martin. Sounds interesting. I like the darker shades of green. I saw a new Mini Cooper in green that looked really good, but it was metallic. I'm not sure if I want to go that route.

William, agreed about telling the truth about the car. I have a restored '67 Mustang fastback that I cloned into a GT. It's all GT on the outside, but heck, it doesn't even have a fog light switch on the inside. But she looks good. winking smiley

I think the Autumn Leaf interiors were the quintessential British color for so many marques. Too bad that color (or the dyes they use to create it) don't last over the long haul in a convertible with the top down. My carpets turned to orange, my headrests remained true to a perfect AL, and my upholstery and door cards turned into an ugly, flat grayish-orange.

David, I plan on keeping my car covered with a tonneau unless I'm driving. Hopefully the AL will stay the right color for a number of years. I like black, but the Southern California sun in the summer time will give you instant blisters on the back of your legs when wearing shorts. My top is shot. It fell apart when I put it up for the first time. I cut the top material off and removed the frame. I don't think I will be putting it back on. Even in the dead of winter, It rarely gets below 55 degrees. Unless it's the early morning hours. A jacket and a beanie should be okay.
