1974 chrome bumper.

The pot-metal "ears" of key lock tumbler (that goes into Ignition Switch) are worn to the point they no longer properly rotate the Ign Sw.

Have Googled for OEM style complete Steering Lock/Ign Sw assy, only results are the 263-640 (made in China).
Bought one, mechanism is Very Stiff.

Another option might be:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lucas-SSB306-Steering-Lock-ignition-switch-for-MGB-MG-Midget-/231383198813

Although listing says for 1973 and Moss says 1974 is different style (post 328101)

Is the original tumbler assy a replaceable item ?? If so, p/n - source ??

Who's hoarding all the NOS items ??confused smiley

I've got an extra one for a 74 - drop me a PM if you want to replace yours. Those are not repairable - only the 77-80 style are designed to come apart.

I have found the new replacement locks will loosen up with use and not be so stiff and the key will snap back properly. My experience anyway.

Probably stiff because you're so accustomed to the worn out knackered one.
