I don't have the original straps but I do use velcro straps to tighten up the roll when my top is down. Makes the lid cover look nice and gives some space to let the seatbelt retractors do their job.

Yup. The straps keep the top neatly arranged and facilitates the top cover looking good. It further makes for a respectable bit of storage space under the top, behind the seats..
