Got my grease gun out today to repack some wheel bearings and guess what, it does not work. Brand new, been used once, tube half full of grease and no matter what I do it will not pump grease. If there is any tool that I hate it is a XXXXX grease gun. I've had dozens through the years and thrown all in the trash for the same reason. EVERY time they get airlocked and will not pump OR the plunger gets bumped in storage and all the grease in the tube ends up BEHIND the plunger or on the shop floor over time. It's easier to just go buy a new one than clean up the mess. Current one was the most expensive manual gun I could buy. Grease gun operation is so simple that a complete moron should be able to use one without fail-guess that says something about me, doesn't it?

You are not the only one Gerry, I have two grease guns myself and several types of rigid or flexible pressure ends, both guns are problematic and temperamental. Once one of the rigid ends got stuck on a high kingpin nipple and withdrawing it by force made my car body scrape the top of my right arm, there is still a dent in the flesh and discoloring to remind me of my spannering activities for good
I noticed in garages they often use grease guns under airpressure, but these require large vats of grease for storage, not something I have space for.
BTW, now when a nipple gets stuck I turn the nipple holder on the gun loose, so its stops clamping.
Why there is no alternative on the market with a greasegun attachment that lets you clamp and unclamp the nipple to the holder by some lever escapes me

I feel your pain Gerry. It usually happens during snow blower season. I have a container I put the loose grease in and save it. The tubes they package it in are crap. They seem to only work for a bit when you put a fresh cartridge in. But try to use it over does not work at all. You spend more time than it takes to perform the operation.

I think the seal material softens and dissolves. Gerry, please machine a nylon plunger that will hold up, with maybe a replaceable O-ring or 2?

I also have one that's probably Korean war era...
It's so old that the rubber material surrounding the hose is all gone leaving me with just a sheath...but it still works fine.
I've had other newer ones that have been sent flying into trees, walls...whatever...due to their poor quality. The old beast keeps pumping though...I keep it packed with marine grease as that's what I use most.

73 MGB. Tires: Round, black, hold air. Oil: Sometimes old, sometimes new...always slippery. Oil filter: Yellow, usually full of oil. Carbs: 2 SU HIF. Distributor: Yes. Headlights: Not that bright but bright enough. A bunch of other stuff most cars have but not really important enough to itemize. Oh, wait...it has a cool sounding exhaust with stickers on the chrome tips. Really slays the ladies...

The only grease gun I've ever owned (got two actually) and it's designed to fit the hole in the centre piece in the grease pot for refilling.
I neither desire nor need any other

Hang in there Gerry.
Because of poor life choices I have used grease guns both as mechanic and an oiler.
The next time you have a problem hang in there and work it out.
The new Lincolns are made in China so spending money on an expensive one does not work.
I keep a small one that is available at the marine stores in the top of my roll away.
Of my three that one is the best.
