Hi Guys,
I have a '79B with an antenna on the front fender just ahead of the windshield. I need to replace it. How do I get at the underside?
Thanks already,
Erik

I have access to my antenna at this time because I am replacing the inside fender seals & installing insulation. Not sure about your '79 but on mine I gain access thru the front fender splash plate located just aft of the front tire, about 6 bolts and the splash plate comes off easy. Another way for me is that a PO had installed speakers at some point (just holes in the metal now, no speakers installed there now) so I can also gain access there, but only with hands (can't see it). So, I think your best bet might be to take off the splash plate behind the front tire. Hope this helps.

Ken defined the method, EXACTLY.

Which ever fender has the the antenna on it, remove the access panel on the back side of the front tire on that side.

Yes, jack the wheel up, put a block under the suspension or a work stand, and then remove the wheel.

Lower the suspension down on a work stand or a big wood block, so it is impossible for the car to "fall down to the ground."

Remove the screws on the access panel, and remove the panel.

Since by definition, your car is more than a few times, ten years old, you may need to wash out the area in the inside back of the front fender to get any mud and dirty that is in your way.

. . . and determine if the lead on the antenna is in reasonable "physical condition."

This is Summer, clean the inside of both fenders, if it is appropriate.
