I've mounted my fog/driving lights on my 70 MGB and will be wiring them thru relays and separate from my headlights. I would like to use separate toggle switches with some type if light to let me know they are on and use switched power. Any suggestions for placement of the toggle switches and what's available for this application?
Thanks, Rut

How 'original' do you want it to look? There's a host of led tipped toggle switches out there. I haven't come across a Lucas illuminated toggle but some of their earlier fog/drive pull switches included illumination.

Mk1: CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67; owned since 3/77. 18GB +40 balanced. Peter Burgess BVFR head. Piper 285. 123. FidanzaFW. 4synch c/r box. Lots more as I did a nut and bolt rebuild; finished 2015. Tartan Red.

GT: December '78. VW Golf guards, flush fit front and rear valances. Torana XU1 vents, frenched indicators & Mk1 rear lights. 'Worked' Rover V8 with Monsoon ECU for EFI. GM4L60E, Lokar tiptronic & Quick4 controller. Vintage Air A/C. FC IFS. CCE 4 link rear. Salisbury with Quaife. Jaguar Storm.

Rut,

When I installed my driving/fog lights, I also wanted it to be a clean installation.

Therefore, since I was using a relay, the load on a switch would be minimum.

So, I used a standard Lucas/Moss lighted switch and mounted it in an empty slot in my dash. I think this is the slot for the rear window defogger on a GT.

I like how it looks. It has a light so I know it is on. Plus I did not have to mount another type switch somewhere.

Oil leak?? What oil leak? That puddle under the car is just sweat from all that horsepower!!

Robert,
Wish I had that spot, but I'm looking at 2 switches and a pillow dash.
Thanks, Rut

Rut,

I knew your dash was different, but I thought that you might have an empty slot in it.

Sorry I could not be of more help

Robert,
I appreciate your input and I'm leaning toward a toggle switch on either side of the radio. I know this doesn't really go with a 70, but it's either that of pull switches.
Thanks, Rut

Since you are wanting to avoid new holes or new tacky plastic switches that are only availiable for about 6 months, some repurposing is required.
You don't appear to have an overdrive, so you could use the overdrive switch

You should already have the right stalk switch. Just a case of attaching the relay wires. The overdrive on/off is not used on mine, but it's there. Does your wiper stalk flip forward and back? If so it's probably the right one. Be nice to have your lights at your fingertips.
You could use the heated rear window light (there will be a blank spot centre consol) as an 'ON' indicator. or the hazard warning light as you know that they're on by the noise.

The dimmer control doesn't do anything useful. Bypass it with a 15 amp spade fuse and use that spot for a proper MGB warning/fog light.
My centre consol had a large unused red light (rear window heater?), which is just a little larger than usual which should fill the dimmer hole.

@ #3. Decided to have a look at Google images 'toggle switch with led' - this was among them (but I didn't interrogate the site - or any other images).

Rut; I have the pillow dash, so I placed a toggle switch on each side of the interior light in the verticle center (above the radio), about 2 inches away from the light. Looks nice and balanced. I have one fog and one driving light mounted in the same place as you put your lights.
