I just bought a 71 MGB. It came with an ashtray, but no console. I've seen the reproductions. Will the original ashtray fit in these. They look like they've been changed to hold cups. It's almost impossible to find an original console. Any ideas? Thanks!

71 did not come with an original center console. You have to use the repros with the cup holder or convert to the later 72-76 console.

Hi, 69 to 71 only came with ash tray and upright panel from dash to trans tunnel. I removed panel on mine and put full, 2 piece console in, arm rest. Fits perfectly. Easy job, transfer switches and hazard flash, lighter, etc. Dennis P

Yes, I had the same problem with my 71. I have installed a later model console and add gauges and some other stuff.
