Hi everyone,

I need to replace the fuel level sending unit in my '76 B. This car has the fuel pickup built into the tank with a separate fuel level sending unit; Moss sells a combo pickup / sending unit (360-656).

Does any here have experience with this combination? http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=111561

Opinions?

Thanks,

Earl

Where were you? Here's my topic from a few days back.

FWIW without advice from Moss (or M-E) it seems the blanked off terminal is for those cars fitted with a low fuel light. I suspect this is a generic sender replacement rather than B specific.

Mk1: CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67; owned since 3/77. 18GB +40 balanced. Peter Burgess BVFR head. Piper 285. 123. FidanzaFW. 4synch c/r box. Lots more as I did a nut and bolt rebuild; finished 2015. Tartan Red.

GT: December '78. VW Golf guards, flush fit front and rear valances. Torana XU1 vents, frenched indicators & Mk1 rear lights. 'Worked' Rover V8 with Monsoon ECU for EFI. GM4L60E, Lokar tiptronic & Quick4 controller. Vintage Air A/C. FC IFS. CCE 4 link rear. Salisbury with Quaife. Jaguar Storm.

I have a large supplier that has stopped carrying any of the aftermarket sending units because they say they were getting half of them bak as returns. They now only carry the original equipment units and get no returns. Very reasonable pricing too. Basil 707.762.0974 basiladams@yahoo.com

Thanks Basil,

Will the later fuel pickups / sending unit combo's work in a '76MGB tank? I thought that I've read that the later pickups will not fit due to interference with the baffles on the earlier tank. (I can't seem to find that post again...)

I dont know about the 76 original tanks(baffled or not) but if it is original with the sender/pickup then the replacement should work. Only comment here was I replaced my 78 tank (heritage it is NOT baffled) and sender combo and I had to bend the pick up tube/w filter mounted UP slightly to clear the floor properly. Otherwise It did not want to fit into the tank side properly. Other than that the printed circuit board sender works perfect now after 3 years of use. No float trouble, perfect reading & no leaks.

The sender uses a ceramic tile with a printed resistive track. That's standard OEM fitment on modern cars.
