Does 1/8th of a tank sound right?

I just changed out my fuel sender unit. The old ones float filled and lost its buoyancy.

I was able to change out the sender without jacking up the car. When I turned the ignition on the fuel gauge reads 1/8th tank. Does that seem about right?

PS: I replaced the old sending unit with Moss new "modern type".

I guess that all depends on how much fuel is in the tank, not being a wisenheimer. How much fuel is in the tank, if none it should show empty.

thanks guys. I would lossen the lock ring, get a slight dribble of gas, tighten lock ring, drive car until said process allowed me change the sender with no leakage.

You should just jack the right side, not much is required even if you have 3 gallons left it is still okay(1/4 of the tank).

I put 5 gallons in this AM and tankfully (get it?) no leaks at the new sender.

I think I can cross that little project off my list.

FYI, Sending unit should read 20 ohms when tank is full, 220 ohms on an empty tank...
