Hi Everyone. Excuse my ignorance but I'm new to the forum and am trying to gain knowledge prior to obtaining a 'project' Spridget. Ideally I'm looking for a post '66 pre '70 model with winding windows/quarterlight doors however there seems to be a bunch of 62/63 model year cars with side curtain doors available and I was wondering................are they interchangeable?
Thanks for your help.
Geoff.

The doors are different. You will have to use the roll up window doors. I have a solid set of 69 midget doors that I will sell.

Thanks for the response however I don't think I asked my question clearly so....................if I buy a MKII Midget can I upgrade it with MKIII doors (although I think I know the answer now)?

Soo much confusion here. MkII Midget doors are identical to mkIII midget doors. the only changes made were to the quarterlight latch handles, the style of the door cards, the method of attaching the window winding handle, and the style of interior door pull, but basically these are all obsticles that can be overcome. More or less the doors from 1965-1979 were the same stampings. If you mean a MkI midget well then the doors have side curtains, and while they might fit in the hole just fine and maybe even fit the hinges and everything, they would look rather silly on a later model car due to the way the car was designed to fit the contour of the door (this was changed a bit when they added the wind up windows you see. SO far as I know, the main difference is in the latch mechanism and the profile of the top edge. Later doors would have a hard time fitting on an early car without removing the quater light windows since the older cars had different windscreens not designed for teh later quarterlights.

Not without a lot of work. The side-curtain cars use a different windshield. The cowl will need to be reworked to use the later windshield. Why not start with a MK III to start with?

As stated, you can not put roll-up window doors on a sidescreen car. However, if this is just going to be a weekend fun car ... the sidescreen cars are much more fun and look way cooler.
I own both types. I'd trade my roll-up window midget for a nice solid sidescreen car in a heartbeat.

Any door with wind up windows should work ok. That would be from march 1964 through 1979. At the swap meet near me they can't seem to give them away and I get them dirt cheap. Wish they were easier to ship. I have a couple but they have been gutted. Just moved. I'll have to look for them. Not sure how to ship either.

Wind up window doors will not fit properly at the cowl or at the B post. They will go in the hole, but do not match the body contours at those locations.

How come if doors are so cheap I can't find a decent set of used mirrors? confused smiley

Because people use the mirrors as handles to fling the doors into the scrap bin.

The Mark I's are becoming rare and more valuable than later models. If you find one in good condition you may want to consider it -- they're great fun, and how often are you going to be using wind-up windows anyway.

Window/No window DOORS don't interchange.
Pick the one you like the most and look for the best you can afford.
My 68* has rollups and I've only had them up once to make sure the new seals worked.

'however there seems to be a bunch of 62/63 model year cars with side curtain doors available' - Are there really, would love one of those. I'm even contemplating doing the conversion on my 68 to take it back to this style door. Yes, a lot of work involved!!

Yes, it's a bit of work but I think the end result is well worth it.

All roll-up window doors might NOT be easily interchangeable

There were at least three running changes to these doors as US safety regulations became more stringent.

Later doors, with side-guard intrusion beams and anti-burst latches, are much heavier (one estimate is 12 lbs per door)..

Test fit before you buy.
