New dipper switch wired correctly. The misses and I were returning from a short trip last night when darkness came rather quickly. Turned the lights on and they were on high beam. Hit the switch and they went black. It didn't seem as if the switch was going down far enough to engage. I removed the switch this evening to take a look. The first picture shows the switch where it normally rests. The second is with the switch depressed. It feels like the outer part of the switch is hitting the shoulder on the lower part before the switch engages. Anyone else experienced this? I've thought about filing the shoulder down a little to allow the switch to be depressed further.

Donnie, here is a pic of my switch dated 4 59 on a 6 59 built car has a gap of 3/16 between the plunger and that shoulder. I had to replace it because the peened over rivet broke off allowing the top and the internal spring to come off . It's replacement came in a Lucas box from Moss a number of years ago. I wonder if it's just bad and should be returned,if they wont take a return on an electrical part maybe then you could try cutting it down. In any event it should go on Barneys page of defective parts. Hope this helps, Gary

I have the same problem with mine. Is it caused by switch not working? If I push high beam works,if I push again it's black

I had one that lost that river also. I drilled and threaded a hole in it and held it together with locktite and a machine screw.

I'd be suffering the same if I had any hair.

My original dipper switch is still working perfectly. Got lucky in that respect.

I could be wrong but it seems the the outer body of the switch is hitting the raised shoulder on the bottom portion before the switch changes. I'm not really out anything so I plan to file the shoulder down a little and see what happens.

Wyatt,I still have granddads old axe, the handle has been replaced 3 times and the axe head only once smiling smiley
Donnie might as well give it a try if you got nothing to loose, looks like others may benefit too. Never thought I'd see the day Lucas parts being the best out there smiling smiley

I replaced the original with this piece of junk. Been tearing the garage apart and still can't find it.
