The crank pulley on my 69 MGC GT fell off. Apparently the PO didn't use a lock tab. Regardless I thought this an easy fix until I realized it is attached with a nut, not a bolt as there are no threads on my crank shaft nose for a nut. I have checked the nose of the crankshaft and there seem to be threads in there. Is there a stud that can be fitted to this? Or will a bolt suffice? I was planning on trying the nut off the MGB that I have but that might be a long shot. I did manage to recover the pulley damper from the road and it seems undamaged. It is a hearty chunk of metal. I would hate to have to replace the entire crankshaft for this as this a strong running engine with great oil pressure.
Any help will be appreciated.

Good to see you aren't always lurking!
It can't be both ways. Either you have threads or they are stripped off. Which is it?
I have the correct nut and it isn't MGB I can assure you.

I will get a picture when I get home. What I see is just the smooth crankshaft nose and I felt the keyway. There is no threaded portion extending past that. When I put my fingertip in the end I feel threads on the inside. That's why I thought it would be an easy fix. It looks just like the crankshaft nose on a B.

Noble-
I don't believe there are any female threads in the nose of a C crank. As per Swamper's pics.,it should be male threads to accept a big ass'd nut. MGBs use a bolt in that location, but, it's about the same size as the male threaded portion in Swamper's pics.
Hate to say without pictures, but, it sounds like your crank nose may have broken right at the step-down to the male threads. Even if the hole in the nose of your crank is female threaded, that bolt wouldn't be near large enough to hold the balancer on without the use of some sort of fender washers.
Not trying to be a "Debbie Downer" but, all C cranks really should have a male threaded nose.
Hope to be proven wrong when you post some pics.
Hope it works out-
Dave
