Having purchased a welder at the swap meet and talked to a number of other members of the club, there is a great deal of interest in having a tech session going over some of the basics of mig welding and possibly teach the best plug welding methods and the best methods of welding in patch panels. The club has a MIG with gas, I have a welder with flux ore and my own auto darkening helmet, and I know of one other guy in the club who owns a MIG similar to mine. the hope is to do it sometime August 5-6, 12-13 or 26-27 at Stephen Skegg's shop. He lives in Downers Grove Illinois, but I don't really know where his fix it shop it, it may be at his house. You can contact him at tech@chicagolandmgclub.com

Hi Seth, you might talk to instructors at local tech schools.
Here is another great source; https://www.millerwelds.com/resources/video-library

Seth, for sheet metal work a flux core welder isn't really the way to go. Someone more versed in the business would be the one to ask though. I have welded in patch panels with gas and very small welding rods so I imagine its possible.

Kurt.

Just an idea but take a look at Eastwoods site for their store down on Cicero Ave.near 121st st.,they give one day classes on Saturdays and Sundays down there on most phases of automotive restoration.I know they have welding classes and some have a nominal fee and some are free,I think they supply the equipment and consumables.
