I opened the box from Moss containing my carpet kit and found that there are quite a few firm wrinkles in the carpet. The box has been sitting unopened for over a year and the wrinkles are quite pronounced. I've tried laying them flat and placing a stack of books on them I've also tried a hair dryer to soften the backing but so far they are unchanged. The photo shows the piece of carpet that goes over the gear shift lever. I'm sure this is typical so, what has worked for you guys?

Not sure what the carper is made of (wool; nylon??) but you can try stretching it on a piece of plywood and using some small nails to keep it stretched as much as possible. As Eric stated, steaming it may help as may some heat (an iron), but be careful you don't melt or burn the carpet (you can try using a pressing cloth between the iron and carpet) and you should heat from the reverse side to avoid damage to the pile. Depending on the depth of the crease and the material, you may still end up with a bit of a bump. Alternatively, see if a dry cleaner will be willing to use one of their clothes presses. Good luck.

Maybe a warm wet towel and an iron, or even a hot day in the sun in a black trash bag

I bought a used wallpaper steam remover from Goodwill for $5. It works perfectly for removing those wrinkles and use it when installing over curved areas and corners. Dave

You need steam. An iron could damage the carpet quite easily - too hot. A good upholstery shop will use a steamer, like you can buy to steam clothes, curtains, etc...

I put the tea pot on and moved the carpet back and forth over the steam (both sides) and put the stack of books on it and it worked like a charm. Thanks guys.
