I've installed a new Camshaft and the timing seems off. Can I get the timing correct after the Cam install. (1969 Engine)

It's a 1969 GH Engine. I've got a electronic distributor (Petronix--Flamethrower). When driving and increase RPM's it sounds like it's missing and I here what sounds like tapping. It seems like it is really running ruff. It Idles fine. It's when you increase RPM's. I reset the Rockers with the .015 Gap Gauge after initial break in thinking this would help with the tapping sound, but it didn't. This is my 1st New Cam install, I'm not sure what normal should sound like.

Tom,
If I were you I would degree the cam. You will need a degree wheel as well as a positive engine stop. I believe you can find how to do this online. You could probably you tube it. My own cam was quite a few degrees behind timing. I bought an offset key from APT.

Can U do this with everything put back together? I think I've seen this done on U-TUBE. They used some sort of Round Dial.

Thank You for your Help.

You can do it with the engine in the car. Need to remove the radiator and then the timing cover to get to it.

You are confusing the camshaft degreeing with ignition timing.
You are getting pinging under load?
You need to get your timing in good order. If it is pinging under load, try pulling out a few degrees of distributor advance

1st. Thank You So Much 4 your service in Vietnam. U R A Hero for going over there.

2nd. I set the distributor back a couple degrees and I believe the timing is where it should be. It drives good, but when U increase RPM's in all gears it sounds like a Rough Tapping Sound.

I just don't know if that's a normal Sound with a new Camshaft, Lifters, and Rods. I've got about 500 Miles on the break in. I've reset the Rockers at .015 after these 500 Miles. That didn't help with the noise.
