Were these brazed or soldered? Wondering if I can powder coat it. If it was brazed or hard soldered, it should be fine. Regular solder would probably melt though.

It looked hard soldered and quite solid to me when I bought a secondhand unit with Andy Jennings. I myself opted for spraying it with (slightly) heat-resistant grey Hammerite and with high gloss silver Hammerite on the strap holding the brass tank to the inner fender (see my picture) smileys with beer

I already painted it with paint that is good up to 250 degrees F. Problem is I'm painting all the brackets and stuff like this gloss black and am having a hard time not getting some dust specks in it. angry smiley I'm throwing in the towel and just gonna have everything powder coated.

If you are not doing a Concours restoration, I would not get overly concerned about some dust specs.

They are visible...to you.....now....because the tank is not installed in the car. Once it is in the car, its details will be less noticable..and it will eventually get dirty.

Food for thought.

See my Coopers too: shiny black Hammerite
But far from perfect with just a spraycan. I love to drive, you want everthing to shine. There werd always two types of MG owners those working on the mechanics for better driving and those polishing for concours level :- D on

Were they painted gloss black originally? What about things like the heater box, pedal box, etc?

Here's the one I did for the V8.

Obviously not in the stock location.

Just incase someone comes across this topic later on...

You can not powder coat the expansion tank. The solder will melt in an oven set to 425*F. sad smiley
