Apparently my original Boot Lid Release Rod (the long one with the bended end) got lost over the last 5 years. As this seems to be an easy part to be reproduced in a short time, I wonder if someone has a sketch of the dimensions etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Peter, I was planning on doing some paint touch up work on my trunk over the coming weekend so I removed the boot release rod and took some photos. The rod is 36.5 inches long and the diameter of the rod is 5/32 of an inch (you'll need to do the metric conversion if necessary). The 90 degree bend in the rod faces down in the boot, where it attaches with a cotter pin to the linkage for the latch. My boot rod is not straight as the photos may show (52 years of use); some bending may be needed to get it to the correct overall angle. Hope these help.

FWIW, the cockpit end of your release rod is bent out of shape. The rod should be at 90 degrees to an oval loop which is about 3x1 inch. Your loop has been pulled on too hard.

Nick, thanks for the feedback, just a last question:

Can you also provide me the length from the bended side to the start of the loop?

Attached is a view of my boot lid pull loop. I think it is still in its original shape and measures about 4 cm front to rear and 5 cm left to right, outside diameter. I hope this helps.

Jim/Bruce, thanks for your input; I believe both of you are correct. I looked in CLAUSAGERS and scanned the better of two photos of the pull release (photo is one is from a coupe, but I would expect it would be the same for all models). The handle does appear to be oblong, so Peter, I think Bruce may have answered your question. Looks like I'll be doing a bit of bending and hammering as well.

Clearly my dimensions are off (guessed from your photo).

I am picking my car up from blaster today and will take a quick snap for you.

Nothing to do with the measurements of said rod, but you can make a simple locking device for your boot while you have it all apart. See my write up: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/lockable_boot.htm

Peter, I did a bit of adjustment on my release rod based on member's input; new overall length is 34 1/4 inches. May not be the exact shape of the original handle, but close enough for me. Fits perfectly and enough room for the fingers!

Sorry, didn't think to take a scale with me when I picked up car at the blasters. Nick's looks pretty good, mine follows but the loop has been opened a bit so I can slide the guide plate back on after primer.
