The old 1/4 elliptical housing is out and ready to be replaced with my WW housing from the '72 . I cut off all the brackets with the plasma cutter and ground the tubes smooth . I received my disc brake conversion brackets from Creative Spridgets yesterday ( Thanks Joel ! ) these are very nice ,well designed pieces . I purchased 1 Nissan Sentra caliper but Im still waiting for the bracket so I can mock it up on the housing , once I have it mounted I can see how much clearance I have between the caliper and 4 link brackets location . Im going to use the original front mounting points and just fabricate axle brackets in the stock location so the bars are straight if I don't have caliper clearance I will make offset bars and move the axle bracket inward , Im also going to mount the coil overs in front of the axle and fabricate a panhard bar.

To remove the hubs I just drilled 2 holes in a 1/4" bar and bolted it to the hub , tightened the nuts evenly and the hub popped off . I pressed out the bearings cleaned them up and gave them an overnight dip in Evap-o-rust and they came out looking new . Ill replace the bearings with the sealed ones and put new O-rings and gaskets when it come time to reassemble . The rear end and components will all be powder coated so it will be a while before it gets put back together . My disc conversion will vary a bit from the instructions on Creative Spridgets site because Im not using British Girling fittings on the car Im changing it all to more conventional inverted flare and some #3 AN stuff , I don't have any yet but once the brackets are all welded on and the calipers fitted Ill plumb it

I cant believe how much dirt and grime was on the rear end , I guess that's from 54 years of never cleaning it . I literally scraped off about 5 lbs of "stuff" off the axle and lower spring mounts. Oh yeah I removed the gas tank ......... I think Ill get a new one , anyone collecting "vintage " fuel ??

I've cleaned off a few that were just as bad if not worse. I usually place a big piece of plastic underneath it and gather my collection of old putty knifes and old screw drivers. Then I turn on some music and resign myself to staying with it until the job is finished.

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

I didn't spend a lot of time on it but it cleaned up ok with some scraping , Im not using that rear end the one from the 72 is clean enough to get the brackets welded on before powder coating . I bolted on the disc conversion bracket but don't have the caliper brackets yet to mock it all up and get measurements for the 4 link brackets I should get them tomorrow .For those who have not seen Creative Spridgtes brackets here they are

i would think the stock mastercylender would need to be upgraded as well? its probley in your upgrade kit maby.but anyway...i put an modded a 90 ford irs rearend in my 70 because stock wouldnt hold up to the roatry, that being said getting advice frome another i used a 1980 chevy chevett manual master (off rock auto for $18.50 shiped! ) because the bigger drum break taxed the stock master an could never get a good pedal.....and beleave you me with a 12a bridgeported you deff need all the stoping power you can get!!!! any way just thought id throw it out there...i did have to modd a lil to make it fit,but a small price to pay for good pedal at such a cheep price!

I did a 4 wheel disc conversion on my Morris Minor using Joel's rear brackets and Sentra calipers. The front calipers have the same bore as the Midget. The master cyl in the Morris is 13/16". The pedal is lower than I would like but firm. I may switch to 7/8". I believe the Midget disc brake M/C is 3/4". I would leave the M/C alone until you give it a test drive. It may be just right. The Midget drum brake M/C is 7/8".

The car had 4 wheel drum with the single M/C for brakes and clutch , nothing is working in the car now. This is a complete nut and bolt custom build everything will be new ,unfortunately no test drives for this car. This is its current condition

Bolted up a caliper and looks like Ill be able to use straight 4 link bars , the mounting holes for the bars will be on the axle centerline (top to bottom ) not behind it like the original lower spring mount so there will be no caliper interference. I did run into an issue with one of the Nissan caliper brackets hitting the conversion bracket but its an easy fix I just need to grind down the casting #'s on the bracket . Ill post some pictures later of this minor modification . That " 6 SH9L " on the bracket needs to be removed its causing the bracket to not sit flush against the conversion bracket

Obviously, there are a multitude of different castings for that bracket. Joel wanted to keep as much material on the adapter brackets as possible. The prototype went through a number of revisions to eliminate as many clearance issues as possible. I guess we didn't hit upon a bracket with those cast numbers. ...good to know ... wish I had known sooner.
