Anyway to salvage the old-style solid Moss trunk seal?

Good morning. I have an older style mastering seal, the solid one that is overly stiff, that I wanted to ask about trying to rehabilitate rather than throwing it away. I know they’ve been superseded with hollow ones, but is it possible to cut the solid one down or is that a fools errand?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Tom,
Can't help you on refurbishing your old one but do not purchase Moss Motors latest try as your boot will not close. Its too thick. Sending one back to Moss this week. Barney says they are aware of this issue but continue to sell them.

The solid rubber seals are WAY too stiff to be functional, even in soft foam rubber. If you expect it to seal, you need to be able to depress it about 1/16 inch, and have less than one pound force per linear inch. See the data here:

I use this: Steele Rubber...
MGA trunk rubber seal
It's a perfect fit, and because it's hollow you can make a slit and invisibly insert a hunk of rubber here and there to shore up a sagging corner to get a nice level deck lid.

As Rick pointed out, the current Moss hollow seal will keep your lid from closing. I had this problem with mine. Using a band saw, it took very little time and effort to slice the bottom off my Moss seal. If height is the problem with yours you could do the same with a utility knife or something similar if you don't have access to a band saw. It doesn't show at all so neatness isn't paramount.
