Three wrong out of ten. What's my score?

So now it is obvious that you got three questions marked as incorrect on this test.
You were shooting for a score of 80% to test into college level Math.
80% will get you into Calc and allow you to take certain sciences without the Algebra prerequisite.,
100 will get you into Trig or just out of Math altogether depending on your major.

It was a 10 question test.
Each question is worth 10 points for a total of 100%

Three wrong, What's your score?

Remember, this is the College AccuPlacer, the universally employed test designed to determine what Math class you are ready for in college or whether you will be placed in refresher Math or Pre-algebra for all students returning rather than continuing onward from High School, for whom the SAT results would be used.

70%? Nope!

Apparently it is 80% though I received a 67%.

Now HOW do you lose 3% in a multiple choice 10 question test? How do you get a report of "Congratulations you scored 80% you are ready for College math!" and have it followed by a print out of "Your score of 67% indicates you need to do some brushing up!"

When I went to college (almost back in the days of stone tablets and chisels) 3 wrong out of 10 meant you got 7 right. (7/10) x 100 = 70%. So sorry Michael you failed.

But we entrust these establishments to teach ethics and civics to our children and start things off by faceless testing with incorrect standards for achievement and handicap our kids by the results.

You apparently haven't been following along.
Education is no longer about teaching and learning it is about safe places, dumbing down the results so the dummies don't feel bad, assuring the proper ratio of minorities will attend the school while more qualified students are rejected due to enrollment parameters, spending more money on buildings and administrative salaries, satisfying NEA Union demands, making sure children get two square meals a day, offering huge loans so too many well intended but ignorant young people can get over their neck in debt only to find there are no jobs waiting for History and Art majors unless they want to fuel the madness and become teachers.

Where ever that test originated is proof that a 70% test score can be both 80% and 67% and your "awarded score" will be computed based on sex, ethnicity and implied need for a certain grade or placement.
I can imagine that in some cases that test score would record as perfect A+.

Robert Kirk

Robert your bitterness is only surpassed by the evidence of its validity.

In reply to # 3579087 by spikemichael Robert your bitterness is only surpassed by the evidence of its validity.

I prefer "jaded" to bitter. I happen to hold formal education and higher learning in high esteem. What I don't like and what I do view is its molestation and rape by those who see it as a target for personal gain and aggrandizement. I am in the group who believe everyone should be paid as if they were politicians or professional entertainers...a very fine line in the case of the former. The reality is most won't.

On another thread today I researched to find 4 star generals and admirals make over $250,000 a year in RETIREMENT...more compensation than earned on the job. That's "our" money he they are being paid. The same holds true for professional bureaucrats which unfortunately now include Pre K through PhD along with all their supervisors including the University Presidents. In my middle sized expanded community, we have 10 school Superintendents each making $300K to $500K per year. At $1900 a working day, 260/ annum, it is unclear to me EXACTLY what all 10 actually do that 2-3 couldn't do with time out daily for two 2 hour coffee breaks along with a 2 hour lunch.

My Dad was a education administrator, Was superintendent of schools (Morocco then Italy) for the Military in the 1950's with a BA.

Came back tot he US and was an "assistant principal" on experience because his teachers were all BA and Principals were MAs in the late 60's.

He was an easy-going guy but it troubled him then that there was a trend towards generating paper on the wall rather than paper on the refrigerator.

His list:

i remember him asking why a teacher thought their day should end at 3:00 PM.

how a teacher expected to meet with a parent during school hours when they should be teaching, or before the parent got home from work, assuming they worked.

Why a school should coddle a bully and punish a victim along with the instigator.

Why a community should lay off a truant (school liason) officer and hire a pair of meter maids.

Why it is good use of police resources to hide in ambush for a speeder on an interstate rather than to sit visibly in front of a drug dealer's known location.

and on and on and on.

The paper on the wall has taken precedent over common sense, intelligence and practical knowledge. Unions have dictated wages and benefits based on the number and words on those wall art regardless of merit.

What do you call the guy that graduated from medical school at the bottom of his class?

Doctor.
