It is Moss part# 635-375. I have purchased two standard shut-off valves and they leak around the stem in a year or less. I was considering a whole different valve with the added bonus of controlling inside the cockpit.

Looks like a simple enough solution. I can think of a few times when I've forgotten to turn off the heat and wished that I had a remote valve. I picked up a servo-controlled unit at a swap meet for $40, but I have not yet installed it.

Nope. Call me masochistic but I think the spigot on the back of the block adds to it's charm.

Paul, I installed a remote valve, but not the Moss unit. (Don't think it was available when I did it). I got one from NAPA for a lot less than the Moss unit - but it is plastic. Because of the tight space, I ran it around using a precurved hose. Initially, I just turned the stock valve around and used it. But, since I didn't need the original valve, a friend fabbed an outlet for me. I guess I could have made the outlet taller, like the Moss unit and could have routed it using the stock hoses. One of best things I've done - being able to turn the heat on and off from inside the car is great, but maybe not so charming!

I used this aftermarket valve on my MGB and will probably do the same on my Bugeye. I do like the look of the original brass valve, but I like convenience even more.

Does anyone have a pic of the factory setup on a Midget 1500? All my hoses have been replaced by the P.O. and I can't find a control valve near the heater box/fan unit on mine.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I do like the look of the original brass one but I don't like them to last about a year and start leaking. It would be convenient to control from the inside when the weather keeps changing like it is in Indiana currently.

The picture of the aftermarket one Rut posted looks real nice. The installation of the plastic one Jack posted also looks like it came from the factory. My main goal is to change the valve one more time then just call it 'done'.

I think Jack's installation is also featuring those snazzy heat shrink clamps. Or are those something else.

If you just put in "heater valve" in Ebay you will likely find several valves that will work. Everybody is complaining about the life of the current crop of English replica valves and knowing the current suppliers they are not likely to improve...think brake light switch.

I think I found it on Rockauto and most online suppliers have them. I made the mount out of 3/8" thick aluminum and just copied the original MGB valve base...I believe the threaded end is 3/8 npt.

Do realize that the Moss unit is just an MGB heater valve mated to adapters. That valve is a known leaker from the MGB folks.
It is better than the "under the hood" valve but not much

Yes, they are - Gates PowerGrip clamps. You can get them from Moss, or your local auto parts store. The nice thing is that you don't cut your hand reaching through tight spaces with traditional SS clamps. The bad thing is they are expensive and you have to destroy them to remove them. So, don't use them on hoses you take on and off frequently!

Sean,

On the 1500 you should have a valve like this mounted to the footwell just to the passenger side of the heater box.

Here is a link that shows the hose routing for a dual SU setup. Our cars are pretty much the same only with the single ZS manifold.

Hi Rich thanks for that. I found it - Thank you. Any idea which way is "on"? It toggles to passenger or driver side. I tell you what, I spent my first good 30 min just poking around and following all the water and vacuum hoses. This is some "mess" of rubber spaghetti!
