I thought it quite amusing.

Brought back good memories from 40 years ago when I lived there for a couple of years. The only difference back then was everybody smoked.

In any debate, the side which strays from civil discussion is usually the side that lacks confidence in its debate position or in the merit of their arguments. Making personal attacks on the opponents instead of staying on the subject is also a sign of weakness.

Anyone who feels compelled to respond in kind to any perceived slight is often suffering from narcissism.

Great place to visit. Not sure about living there all year round. Found the underground in London a great way to get around.

His comment that the British didn't do slavery, is akin to saying the Bank of England doesn't do money. The slave trade was mostly British from top to bottom.

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled but which is largely back together so I'm a lot less ignorant.

But I. Guess they had the good taste to just trade in it and not have slaves at home. That's what the peasants were for.

I actually became quite fond of "pub grub"! The roundabouts are the greatest traffic control idea to come down the pike...!

Too bad in the USA roundabouts are only used as novelty in areas that want to feel fancy or cute.
You can definitely tell that the man that wrote this was from the southeast.

I would love to be able to visit there sometime.
Got to get American skinny first though. So I'll be normal sized there.

If you come to central Indiana, you will encounter roundabouts. More are being built every day.

Where appropriate, they immediately solve traffic problems that have frustrated traffic engineers for years.

I say the more the better.

Here in south Louisiana it's just the opposite. Roundabouts on public cause more issues than they solve. They are being used as replacement for three through 6 way stop intersections. More often than not everyone has to come to a complete stop and wait for a gap to come around. Even the smallest gaps get driven into causing the circle to stop flowing to prevent a crash, sometimes causing a three or four car string of crashes. From what I have seen, they work OK for low traffic but as the volume goes up so does the accident rate within them. Before their arrival, sensed traffic lights worked just fine. They sense the need and act accordingly

The Ladd and Laurelhurst roundabouts in East Portland have been there for about 100 years. Since I lived there for the first 43 years of my life, they seem intuitive. I can see how they might be confusing to someone unfamiliar though.

During the time my daughter lived in Sammamish WA they put one on East Lake Sammamish Parkway. My impression, even though traffic increased through the time period, was that it improved traffic flow.

One has been proposed for a troublesome intersection in our neighboring city of McMinnville, but I hear that some people are against it.

And of course the insurance industry likes them as the accidents are typically less serious... sideswiping fender-benders rather than T-Bones.

I like them, especially in my Mini

Many years ago I got in one that was multi lane. Got forced into an inside lane and had to make several rounds before I could get into an outside lane to get off.

I believe that most people who are against roundabouts are usually against them mainly because they are a change. People naturally don't like change and many struggle to get used to anything new.

My belief, again, is that as soon as there are more of them, and people grow up with them and learn to drive around roundabouts, they will become the norm and people will complain when an intersection still has a stoplight or stop signs.

I don't like 4-way stops myself. I believe they cause so much wasted time, especially when the road is busy.
