I have ALWAYS admired the dash that was in our departed member, Peter Cummings, Blue roadster. For those unfamiliar with what I am speaking of, he had stripped his pillow dash of the pads and covering and had painted it to match the body color of his car. I have been bouncing that idea around in my head for some time now and even went and obtained a dash that was in good shape except for the vinyl covering. I know that if one removes the covering and installs the dash in the car there is a rather unsightly gap at the ends of the dash and the door opening. Has anyone filled this in with sheet metal and possibly has a pattern that I could steal so that I do not have to fiddle with the extra steps of fitting and removing the dash a number of times in order to fabricate this filler piece? I think these dash panels can be made to look good with a bit of finessing and would be open to suggestions. Thank you gentlemen for your time.

Jim

Jim,

I liked Peter's dash modification, and when I was putting AC in my car, I wanted to do the same to allow me to put the AC vents in the dash. I did weld a small piece of steel at the corners, but don't remember it being anything difficult. Here are a few pictures. The radio console will no longer reach the dash, so something must be done there. I added a piece of steel to mine and covered it in vinyl.

Wes.

What's that site with the collection of dash modifications? Lost it or would post it for you. Anyone bookmark it?

Thanks Andy, I appreciate it, I have seen that series of pictures but have really only seen one or two that were what I am trying to achieve. I do not want to get too "lexus" in my modifications, only rid myself of the pillow and restore some of the MKI series feel to the cockpit. ……
