Check it out - my son's friend Nate made this video for a narrative video project at school. It's all about Chris and his Midget. You may notice the handicap placard - this was shot a few weeks after his ankle surgery, and he was happy to be driving again although he still had a boot for his foot and couldn't walk too far without crutches. Soon he'll be jumping over the car again (when I'm not looking).

I'm about to take it for a test ride after bleeding the clutch (installed new master/slave/connecting pipe). I hope everyone else is getting in a good drive today.

Bleeding the clutch was a PITA. I'm glad I had read enough to expect some issues. The first time I didn't get all the air out of the slave so I took it off and used a spare pushrod to get the air out. I kept it that way with zip ties while I bled it with a mity vac (which came apart because the tubing was fatigued and dumped fluid around my head). Reassembling was harder with a pressurized system, and then it was still too soft! I used a 1x2 clamped to the steering wheel to hold the pedal down overnight, and presto! It was fine in the morning. Sorry for the long answer, but the good news is that it was worth it. I also discovered that one of the bolts holding the transmission to the engine was missing, which accounted for some of the oil on our floor. Between the bleed and a transmission oil change, the car shifts better than when we got it in April.

Next up? Time to get that fuel gauge working.

That is a beautiful car, a really impressive video, and you should be proud of your son, he did a great job with the interviews.

Thanks, Jonathan. He's quite a character - I agree, his friend did a great job capturing the story on video. I was happy when Chris decided on the Midget (he found it on Craigslist) - it's provided some good bonding time for us. Of course, now that it's running better than my car, I may never see it again!
