I have just finished reading a book, bu Niven, Pournelle and Flynn, called "Fallen Angels". It is set slightly in the future and has an ice age theme. In it they state that the sun has stopped fusing, ie producing heat, and that it is causing an ice age. The "proof" is that scientists can't find enough neutrinos that are "released" when hydrogen fuses. In the back of the book they state that the science is real.
I googled "coming ice age" and this link came up. I didn't check out all the other hits.

Maybe you guys, up in Northern America, who are on about the heaps of snow you have to cope with, are feeling the first effects of this.

Sounds like a good read, I will have to check it out - I do enjoy science fiction. Back in real life, however, the data clearly shows the planet is still warming. I do hope that you can appreciate that as an equivalent statement of worth, one could equally say that your outrageously hot summer Down Under is evidence of "a coming inferno" or somesuch nonsense.
IMHO both statements - which you will find plenty of people willing to make - miss the mark. What matters is not what happens from day-to-day, month-to-month or even year-to-year, but rather the long term trend. Which is unquestionably one of steady warming... whether people like it or not.
FYI: cbn.com is a religious news source. I don't know about you, but a website which denies evolution and professes the Earth is only a few thousand years old would not be the first place I would go to get peer-reviewed scientific information.

Ahh, but I've now checked out other hits, and they say the same thing. Can't all be religious nuts.

Did you check any scientific sites? Or Wikipedia? The first line of the Wikipedia entry on global warming would've given you your answer - it's generally a good place to go for unbiased coverage on a subject. How did you phrase your question? If you're deliberately looking for a "coming ice age", that's what you'll find in the search results...

...Herb...contrary to the prevailing intimidation's...the science is not settled.
Its not even science. $$$Paid for manipulated computer data! Good thing this grand social engineering hoax is just about over. Fewer and fewer believe this hoax which is good thing.
I kinda wish it were true since a little warmer is good for me...hate the cold...burrrrrr!
Will check our the book. Thanks

SJJ Don't know where you get your data but whilst some places have observed increased temperatures, weather.............the global warming trend stalled and has stayed that way since 1998. And that is according to the UN's WMO.
'Figures released by the UN's World Meteorological Organisation indicate that 2012 is set to be perhaps the ninth hottest globally since records began - but that planetary warming, which effectively stalled around 1998, has yet to resume at the levels seen in the 1980s and early 1990s'

1968 MGB Purchased already dis-assembled but which is largely back together so I'm a lot less ignorant.

Did you even read what I wrote?
The data shows that the fact the planet is warming is irrefutable. I purposely said NOTHING about WHY it was warming (e.g. natural or man-made causes), and absolutely do not intend to get into that. The vast majority of Global Warming Skeptics accept that the planet is warming; they just disagree about why. But you are so tied to your ideological beliefs that you can't even accept real-world facts... and to think one of your favourite websites is called "Reason"... take a look in the mirror, you're peddling "Delusion" instead.

No, that is according to the interpretation of the WMO report by a news site for software developers which has a skeptical stance - I should know, I've read that site regularly for years.
I said the planet was warming. Did el reg tell you what was going on in the oceans?

It's hard to remain patient with such wilful ignorance. I don't like the "denialist" pejorative and I don't use it because I feel it's unconstructive, but when you look at the ignorant comments above it's not hard to see how it came about. Fingers in the ears, no, No, NO, I will not accept anything, even the uncontroversial fact that the planet is warming. As much as I may disagree with them on other matters, at least intelligent skeptics acknowledge the warming trend even if they ascribe it to natural causes rather than the work of man.
If you believe that the data that shows the planet is warming has been hoaxed, IMHO you have some serious psychological issues.

At the end of the day, it is your belief, backed by your evidence, versus my belief, backed by my evidence, or my complete lack of conviction. That you are in a minority, doesn't give you the right to an air of superiority, let's leave that to the Ruperts and Priscillas.
I'm not snotty or peeved that you don't respect my position, so neither should you be snotty or peeved that I don't go along with yours.

...."psychological issues"??..........prolly!!!.............I can't look a beagles without wanting to massacre pheasants.......or watching a Subaru ad without wanting to drop a third bomb on Japan....
btw when you get some free time, learn what healthy skepticism is means.....that is assuming you do not fall of the edge of the earth in your many travels.

Ice ages and global warmings are real. Influenced by man, controlled by Mother Nature.

You don’t get smarter as you get older. There is just less stupid stuff left that you haven’t already done.
I’m at the age where “Should I” turns into “Let’s try it and see what happens”
I am pretty sure my last words are going to be “What does this thing do?”

All any of you have to do is read some history. There was a "mini ice age" from around the mid 14th century to around the mid 19th century. People in Europe were starving because the weather was too cold for crops to mature. "Mini" lasted 500 years. This is a blink of an eye in geological time. The earth is still warming from this "mini ice age". It was "only" 150 years ago. Less than a blink of an eye. The earth has been warm before, dinosaurs were living in Wyoming among tropical plants as geology has shown us. Is man causing this to happen faster? I feel that is still up for debate.
