I've bought two of the shift knobs from Moss over the past year. Both were crappy. The second, made of "wood," has just split up the side. When you tighten the jam nut enough to keep it from rattling when you shift at revs, it splits the knob. This is it:

Does anyone make a wooden, HIGH QUALITY shift knob for the B, and can tell me where to get it? Thank you very much.

On my 69 I went from the small black round knob to the one pictured and through several more. I went back to the small black original knob and gave up on the wood. none seemed to last or stay tight.

Michael,

Try cjwoodcraft on EBay. They have high end stuff. It's not cheap $95.00 for knobs.

There are usually original AMCO wooden and leather knobs on ebay . Well made and mine are 30-40 years old now. Expect to pay 20-40 for an original.

Thanks. That's a bit easier to swallow than $95.

Let me be one to chime in here. The wood shift knobs from Moss that have plastic threading are garbage. There is no way the stay firmly screwed to the shift. You must purchase a knob with metal threads that can be tightened and locked in place with the nut. Don't wast you money on anything else. Mitch.

There is or was someone on BBS that makes some mighty fine knobs with Brit coins inlaid in the top. It's worth looking into

I got one of these for my MGA - it is great! good size for the hand. They will do custom threads - I can't remember now what the MGA thread is on the shifter, but I had to be careful to specify.

I use you from VB. It came loose after a couple years and rattled. I have since fill the loose areas with epoxy send it is fine.

An alternative to the epoxy or tightening the knob so tight that it splits is lock tite. Use the blue stuff so you can get it loose in the future if you need to, not the red stuff. Had one that would not stay tight or stop rattling, put some lock tite on it and let it dry and it has not rattled or come loose since then.

That would be Larry Heaps, phorum name Gromit. PM him for some beautiful solid wood knobs in all kinds of woods and stains. He does really nice work.
