1965 MGB, stock, has 45D4 points distributor. I have ordered new "red" points, condenser, and plugs. Has newish cap and "red" rotor. Should coil be ballasted coil or non?

I have a NIB Lucas Ballasted Ignition coil I was going to install. Should I keep what's on the car and not use this?

What ignition malaise are you trying to address?

Your points will not last 100 miles if you install your new ballasted ignition coil. Do not use it.

No issues. Its a daily driver and I am just servicing. I will continue to keep the new coil in the box and use the current. I have no reason to believe it is "bad". The ignition parts are @1 year old. I will keep them as spares. I run 6-7000 miles a year. The front calipers will get rebuilt this weekend(sticking), along with new brake hoses(age unknown) and new radiator hoses(starting to stiffen).

The coil for the ballasted system is essentially a 6 volt coil. Sell, trade or give it to someone with a later car that can use it. I've been driving for over 50 years and just this year replaced my first coil ever!
